MUST i HAVE TO

Šta biste rekli ovoj dami?

You must stop smoking! ili:

You have to stop smoking!

Zapravo, možete joj reći obe rečenice, jer glagoli MUST i HAVE to imaju isto značenje – morati.

Ipak, postoje neke razlike u njihovoj upotrebi.

  • MUST je isti za sva lica:

You must stop smoking.

She must stop smoking.

They must stop smoking.

  • Posle MUST koristimo infinitiv bez „to“

I must go now.

I must to go now.

  • Negativan oblik nije MUSTN’T, već DON’T HAVE TO ili DOESN’T HAVE TO

We don’t have to go yet. (Ne moramo još da idemo.)

  • Pitanja nisu uobičajena sa glagolom MUST, već sa HAVE TO.

(Why must you go so soon? – Iako nije nepravilna, ovakva rečenica vrlo retko se sreće i zvuči staromodno.)

Why do you have to go so soon? – Ovako formulisano pitanje mnogo je prirodnije.

  • MUST nema oblike za prošlo i buduće vreme. U te svrhe, on mora da pozajmi oblike od glagola HAVE TO

Morala sam da kupim novi telefon. = I had to buy a new mobile.

Moraću da kupim novi telefon uskoro. = I will have to buy a new mobile soon.

  • HAVE TO nije isto za sva lica:

I/You/We/They have to stop smoking.

He/She/ has to stop smoking.

  • Posle HAVE TO koristimo infinitiv, ali kao što vidimo sa „TO“
  • Negacija i pitanja grade se pomoćnim glagolom DO/DOES

– Do I have to finish this report today? – No, you don’t have to finish it today.

– Does he have to clean his room every day? – No, he doesn’t have to clean it every day.

  • HAVE TO ima oblike za prošlo i buduće vreme: HAD TO, WILL HAVE TO

Morala sam da kupim novi telefon. = I had to buy a new mobile.

Moraću da kupim novi telefon uskoro. = I will have to buy a new mobile soon.
